Selecting a Chihuahua puppy is very exciting. These little pups are so tiny and cute; it’s hard to resist bringing the whole litter home. When confronted with all of this cuteness, how can you select just one puppy?
First, most Chihuahua puppies are not chosen for their looks, as much as they are chosen for their personalities. Not all personalities will jive well with your own personality, and it is important to find a Chihuahua that shares certain personality traits with you. A good breeder will ask you personal questions about your life, in an effort to match you with the right dog in his or her litter.
It is vital that you listen to the advice of your breeder in this matter! The breeder knows these puppies better than anyone else, and has already seen the personalities of each dog in the litter. Listen to what the breeder tells you…

We work hard to make our environments safe for our children and for ourselves. We have to work equally hard to ensure safe environments for our pets. This is especially true when it comes to Chihuahuas, and is due in large part to their natural curiosity, their fearlessness, and of course their small size.
Take a look around your home, and think in terms of Chihuahua safety. Where are the dangers for your little dog? Are there small spaces where he could become lost or stuck? Are there products that he may ingest which could make him ill ? or even cause his death?
Inside of your home, the biggest safety hazard for Chihuahuas is their own curiosity. They like to explore. They can easily pull heavy objects down on top of themselves causing injuries. They could get into high places, and then try to jump to the floor, again…

Because Chihuahua puppies are so tiny, most people don’t realize how much room is needed for them. Make no mistake about it, these little dogs do require a great deal of room, and in the beginning, that space is called an enclosure.
A playpen makes an excellent enclosure for a Chihuahua puppy. These dogs are so small that it is in their best interest to be contained in some form of enclosure while they are small puppies. It is unsafe for the puppy to wander freely about your home while he is so small.
Some people have an extra small room that they can house their Chihuahua puppy in. If this is the case, that is fantastic. If not, seriously consider buying a playpen for your Chihuahua puppy.
Once the puppy is ready to leave the playpen, the Chihuahua still needs plenty of space ? despite the fact that they…

Chihuahuas are loving and affectionate little dogs. While most dog breeds want lots of attention, Chihuahuas seem to require more time and attention than many other breeds. In fact, Chihuahuas can easily become like children to their owners.
But how much attention does your Chihuahua really need? The answer to that question has to be that your Chihuahua needs as much attention as you can possibly give him. To his way of thinking, there is no such thing as too much attention.
Many people thoroughly spoil their Chihuahuas with an abundance of time and attention, and this is absolutely fine. The dog isn’t likely to rob any liquor stores when he grows up or riffle through your purse for your social security check. He will simply absorb all of that time and attention, and give you back all of the time and attention that you can stand and then some.…
