If the breeder starts out with a true bloodline you can be assured that your Pekingese will be pure blood. By this meaning the breeder took a full blood male they acquired in one location and a full blood female Pekingese from another location. This involves some research on the breeder’s part to make sure the two Pekingese are in no way related. Once that was done, and then they began breeding the two.

If you purchase your Pekingese from a AKC or A CKC breeder you can also be assured, that your Pekingese is full blood, these clubs requires blood tests and witness signatures that attest to the full blood breeds as proof.

A Pekingese carries itself proudly, he/she has a bounce to their step, a true proud Pekingese will throw its tail high over its back and it will bounce or prance. This is a sign of a pure blood Pekingese.

A pure blood Pekingese is fairly easy to recognize. The males are especially easy, as they will have the long full coat that in some cases drags the ground. A full blood pure Pekingese will also have other features you may have not see in other breeds of dog.

The Pekingese will have a flat head, also a rounded face. Other traits of the Pekingese are the large round eyes, as well as the short muscular legs.

The legs are somewhat bowed out. A Pekingese will also have hair growing out from between it pads on its feet this is to keep the feet padded because the pads are usually so tender and it also keeps the Pekingese warm. These are all the most prominent features of the full blood Pekingese.

These features remain pure by breeders that only want to preserve the Pekingese. These are all features that make a Pekingese what it is, and what it was bread for to begin with.

The Chinese legend has been passed down for several hundred years. Legend tells a story that a lion fell in love with a small monkey. Therefore the lion went to the Chinese god and asked the god to make him small so he and his love could be together.

The offspring of this union was believed to be the Pekingese of today. However this is only legend. People of today believe that a cross between a Chinese pug and a Japanese Chin or a Lasso Oppose is the result of the Pekingese of today. However they could have just been all along.

Loyalty is another main factor in the Pekingese breed. There was a legend passes down about the Emperors Palace as it was invaded during the war, six to eight Pekingese that refused to leave the side of the aunt of the Emperor.

The aunt had committed suicide to keep from being captured. The invaders had to physically removed they were so loyal to their master. However the Pekingese breed became to be here.

There are many of these features that make it such a popular pet and companion. Traits that made the Pekingese desired by the Chinese still make it very desired today.
